Karen Arch, who has a BFA in Art and Constructive Design from Florida State University, started out as a designer of fine jewelry. Working in silver and gold she created one-of-a-kind cloisonne’ pieces, some of which are in the permanent collection of Albuquerque Museum of Fine Art. In 2010, she and her husband came to Mexico and fell in love with Mineral de Pozos. They restored a crumbling ruin and became full time residents of the hauntingly beautiful pueblo fantasma.

She was born in Mexico in 1960. He ventured into art in a lyrical and circumstantial way, in 1975, working in oil. Later she perfected her technique and took classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, graphic design, art history, human figure, art objects, engraving, batik, mixed media, abstractionism, monotype, resins and molds and experimental painting.

She has a Degree in Graphic Communication at the Academy of San Carlos, as well as a Master's degree in Visual Arts at UNAM.

Raised in Texas, Merry moved to San Miguel, Mexico 20 years ago. She became the first person to have a studio in the now famous Fabrica la Aurora. She has been creating, painting and experimenting in many different art disciplines for over 50 years. She is an abstract painter, and internationally-known artist, having exhibited in Europe, Venezuela, Mexico and the USA. Merry has taken numerous courses as she has traveled around the world and when in 1967 she came to study at the Instituto de Allende in San Miguel, she fell in love with Mexico. She has a BS degree from the University of Texas in Austin.
